Tips for Industrial Designs Tandem filingIn some cases, if your
invention has a distinctive appearance and functions, it is recommended that
you protect it by an ID and a patent. The advantages of protecting by design
are: the examination goes much faster, and all costs are much lower. SearchingSearching for novelty of
design may be more costly (particularly in the U.S.) rather than simply
filing for it. DrawingsEven though it is permissible to file an application with a photograph, the photo requirements are so strict, that it is more advisable to instead file formal drawings, which must be prepared ONLY by a specialized draftsman. We often have debates with clients who want to use their draftsmen, but the strict drawing criteria set out by the U.S. Patent Office are known to only the few, and the clients' draftsmen fail to follow the guidelines. |
